In an effort to get rated for human space flights, SpaceX is developing their Crew Dragon Launch Abort System (LAS). The video, after the break, shows real time footage of this life saving backup plan. The LAS is designed to trigger should there be any critical rocket issues.
In the event of a problem, the human capsule has its own set of rockets that will separate it from the main rocket. The rockets that power the human capsule are eight SuperDraco engines which generate 120,000 lbs of thrust which equals about 5,000 ft of lift.
